Vail, Colorado Medical Marijuana Patients

Vail, located in Eagle County, Colorado, is a picturesque skiing destination and home to many art galleries and cultural events. Vail medical marijuana patients, like patients throughout Colorado, may legally obtain medical marijuana thanks to Colorado Amendment 20. This law, passed in November of the year 2000, permits patients with certain chronic and debilitating conditions and/or symptoms to grow, purchase, and use medical marijuana. The law limits quantities that may be possessed by a patient, as well as where and when using marijuana is permitted.

Who Can Use Medical Marijuana In Vail?

Vail, Colorado residents who wish to use medical marijuana legally must obtain a Colorado medical marijuana license. In order to obtain a license, each patient must receive a recommendation from a doctor who must agree that the patient has an approved condition or symptom and state that medical marijuana, in the doctor's opinion, could benefit the patient. The recommendation and an application, with an accompanying application fee, must be mailed to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Patients with glaucoma, cancer, or HIV/AIDS qualify, with a doctor's recommendation, to become registered medical marijuana users. Patients may also qualify if they experience the following symptoms: Cachexia, severe nausea, seizures, chronic pain, muscle spasticity, or muscle spasms, regardless of which condition caused those symptoms. In fact, patients can even qualify if their symptoms were caused by treatment for another condition.

Even registered Vail medical marijuana patients must abide by certain restrictions. Medical marijuana may not be used in public or in a place open to the public. It also may not be used if its use would present a health risk to others, such as in the presence of small children or while operating an automobile.

Obtaining Medical Marijuana in Vail

Becoming a registered medical marijuana patient is only half the battle. After receiving a license, patients must still obtain their medicine. It's legal to grow it at home, so long as each patient possesses at any one time no more than two ounces of usable marijuana and no more than six live plants. No more than three of the plants may be in mature and flowering condition. However, there's no legal provision for the purchase of seeds or seedlings in order to start growing at home. In addition, medical grade marijuana is difficult for a novice grower to produce, and the grade of marijuana produced for recreational purposes may not be strong enough to alleviate certain symptoms.

The remaining options include designating a caregiver who can grow marijuana for the patient, or working with a full-service dispensary that will provide caregiver services, medical grade marijuana, and management of the patient's ongoing care. Pain Management of Colorado operates a Vail medical marijuana dispensary that offers a variety of products and services. Pain Management of Colorado can assist new patients with the application process and with understanding Colorado medical marijuana laws and regulations. Existing patients who have already obtained a medical marijuana license can find professional caregivers and medical marijuana doctors through the Vail dispensary, or can simply purchase any of a variety of medical grade marijuana products, including those designed for eating or vaporization.
