"As a person with MS, I have horrible, painful muscle spasms from the waist-down. So much so, that it's confined me to a wheelchair. A friend of mine, and fellow MS sufferer, told me about the pain-relief effects of medical cannabis. Despite my initial skepticism, I gave it a try. While I find the effects not necessarily euphoric, it does allow me to stretch my legs out straight, either sitting on the floor or lying in bed -- it's a great muscle-relaxant."

Four petitions have been received since 2001 to add conditions to the list of qualifying conditions for which patients may legally use medical marijuana. The petitions received were regarding Parkinson's Disease, Asthma, Anxiety, and Bi-Polar Disorder. All these applications were denied on the basis of insufficient scientific evidence that treatment with medical marijuana would alleviate these conditions, although many advocates disagree with the decision. Further petitions will continue to be accepted by the Department of Health as new research is published.
