Aspen, Colorado Medical Marijuana Patients

Aspen, Colorado medical marijuana patients may obtain and use their medicine legally thanks to Colorado's Amendment 20. This law permits Aspen medical marijuana patients to legally grow, obtain, and use medical marijuana, within certain limitations. Pitkin County, which includes Aspen, is currently home to a mere 32 medical marijuana patients, or less than 1% of the total number of patients in the state. The total city population is only 5,804.

Who Can Use Medical Marijuana in Aspen?

Only patients with certain conditions or symptoms may legally obtain medical marijuana in Aspen. Patients who do qualify based on their health conditions must complete an application process and obtain a valid Colorado medical marijuana license through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Patients must adhere to certain restrictions regarding where medical marijuana can be used and how much medical marijuana one patient may possess.

You may qualify to become a registered medical marijuana patient in Aspen if you have cancer, HIV/AIDS, or glaucoma. Patients who suffer cachexia, severe nausea, seizures, chronic pain, muscle spasticity, or muscle spasms may also qualify, whether their symptoms are due to a primary medical condition not listed or even if they are a result of treatment for a condition not listed. For example, a patient with Cerebral Palsy wouldn't qualify on the basis of his or her condition, but if the patient suffered muscle spasticity, he or she might qualify to obtain a Colorado medical marijuana license.

In all cases listed, the patient must obtain a recommendation from a doctor who believes that medical marijuana would be beneficial to the patient. Patients under the age of 18 need recommendations from two doctors and must also meet certain other requirements.

Getting Medical Marijuana in Aspen

Aspen medical marijuana patients can grow marijuana at home, purchase it from a caregiver, or work with a full-service dispensary in order to obtain medicine as well as manage their applications, paperwork, and ongoing treatment. A patient may possess up to two ounces of usable marijuana and up to six live plants. Only three of the six live plants may be mature, flowering, and capable of producing usable marijuana.

Growing at home is perhaps the most obvious choice, but may also be the least convenient, especially for patients with chronic and debilitating conditions who may be unable to spend time and money growing at home. In addition, patients who need medical grade marijuana and its higher concentrations of beneficial cannabinoids are unlikely to be able to produce the highest-quality medicine by growing at home.

Many medical marijuana patients find that a dispensary, such as those operated in Colorado by Pain Management of Colorado, is the most convenient way to obtain medical marijuana. In addition to providing medical grade marijuana, dispensaries serving Aspen patients can connect patients with medical marijuana doctors and caregivers, and even walk new patients through the application and registration process from start to finish. Dispensaries are increasingly becoming the top choice for patients who value professional and respectful care as well as top quality medicine.
